Rick Mallars

Rick has been a life long Alaskan and has been producing videos and commercial footage for over ten years. As an owner at Upper One Studios and a writer and producer, Rick’s dream is to grow Upper One Studios into the premier video production company in Alaska. Having filmed for Discovery Channel, History Channel and other production companies and stations, Rick Mallars, along with Tom Karpow have a diverse clientel and eccelctic filming background. With an intense interest in creativity and focus on content creation, Rick brings many years of detailed experience to Upper One Studios in the realm of video production.

Tom Karpow

Owner – Camera Operator, Writer, Master Editor, Sound Design

Tom grew up in the Lower Mainland area of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  Acting, film, and theater production has been a passion of his since middle school.  Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 with an Acting/Production Major.  He further completed the Professional Development Program at Simon Fraser University in the Drama department.  In 2006, Tom met Rick Mallars while working for the State of Alaska and there they were able to film a small in-house production for the department of Corrections.  During that shoot, their friendship was forged by common interests in the creative video world.  In 2007 Rick and he followed their dreams by starting Upper One Studios, a video production company that specializes film and dynamic content for inbound marketing strategies.

Ashton Hurlburt

DP, 1st AC, Aerial Photographer, Gaffer

From Sundance to New Line Cinema, our Director of Photography for high end production has worked with all of the majors; commencing his career Shooter Producing for National Geographic, Ashton now lives in the Film/Commercial world.  Having worked on many features and national ads with American Express, Chevron, Dodge and even Trident Gum, Ashton’s commercial work has aired prime time for the NBC Olympics, the Super Bowl and internationally on numerous networks.

An Athabascan descendant and lifelong Alaskan, Ashton strives to represent his home and culture in the ever expanding film industry on a global scale.

James Dorondo

Owner – Motion Graphic Artist, Roto Artist, Master Editor, Storyboard Artist, Camera Operator

Jim founded Rainfall Media in 2013.  In 2006, he joined US Travel as the Graphics and Web Manager where he was responsible for print and multi media design.  His web development included data driven websites as well as web based applications.  His work with Morris Communications, MSI and Talking Circle Media allowed him to hone those skills even further in addition to gaining experience in motion graphics and mulitmedia production.  Jim has also developed original content managment systems, ModeCMS.  Jim is also the owner of Rainfall Media that specializes in print and web design.

Jessica Quintero

Social Media Show Runner, Project Manager (and an AMAZING Actress- just sayin’)

Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Jessica spent a lot of time traveling state to state with her mother and younger brother, living in places such as Las Vegas, Atlanta, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico to name a few. She moved back to Alaska in 2007 being involved with various theatrical Productions which later led her to move to Los Angeles California. Jessica pursued her career as an actress working with the likes of Vin Diesel (The Fast the Furious), Vanessa Bell Calloway (Coming to America), and Nana Gbewonyo (Coach Carter). She was also given the opportunity to work in projects such as The Ropes, America’s Court, and her new feature film Emergency Contact. Jessica eventually worked her way up to Second assistant director on projects with Wiz Khalifa (Molly), Big Sean (Blessed), and Kanye West (Gold Digger), earning that title on the project Obsessionado by Farruko. Now back in Alaska, Jessica spends her time helping with her family’s business, the Alaska Corn Company, as well as working as project manager and showrunner for Upper One Studios.  Jessica is also making connections in the Alaskan film industry to continue with her passion for acting.
